Faculty of Disability Management and Special Education, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, Coimbatore campus organized A One – Day Orientation Programme on ‘Strategies to Assess Children with Special Needs in Inclusive Classroom for Pre-Service Teachers on 29th February.
The first session “Introduction about Special Education and Acts, Policies related to persons with Disabilities” was handled by Dr. Jignya Shah, Assistant Professor, FDMSE. In this session, she explained the concept of special education and Acts, Policies such as PWD Act 1995, RPwD Act 2016, RCI Act etc.in a detailed manner. The second session of the day “Overview about various sensory and physical disabilities and its Characteristics” was dealt by Dr. K. Dhanalakshmi, Assistant Professor. In her session the concept of sensory disabilities such as Blindness, Low Vision, Deaf Blindness and Physical disabilities were explained with its characteristics.
The third session was handled by Dr. Saumya Chandra, Assistant Professor on the topic “Overview about developmental disabilities and its Characteristics”. She gave detailed information about eight developmental disabilities such as Intellectual Disability, Down syndrome, CP, ASD, ADHD, etc. The last session of the Programme “Models of Rehabilitation, Service Delivery Provisions in Special Education and Role of family in Special Education” was handled by Dr. S. Parween, Assistant Professor. She discussed about various models of disability rehabilitation and case cade of service delivery options. She also discussed the role of parents in rehabilitation. In between, participants were taken to the visit to various service units such as physiotherapy, speech therapy, special education, vocational unit at FDMSE to gain knowledge about the therapies and training offered to children with special needs.
The valedictory function was held at evening 4.00 pm. Dr. K. Dhanalakshmi, Asst. Prof. welcomed the gathering and Dr. J.B.Dheesha, Asst. Prof. presented a brief report of the programme. The valedictory address was delivered by Swami Buddhidananda, Asst. Admin Head, FDMSE. Two of the participants shared their feedback. Participants received their certificate of participation. Dr. S. Parween, Asst. Prof. proposed vote of thanks. All the staff members attended the valedictory function. In total 67 B.Ed. & M.Ed. general teacher trainees (23 Male and 44 Female) attended and benefited through this programme
