CELEBRATION OF 7th INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA

THEME: YOGA FOR WELL-BEING

Faculty of General & Adapted Physical Education and Yoga (GAPEY), since 2015, International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on June 21. This year 2021, we celebrated 7th International Day of Yoga on 21st June, 2021. The theme for celebration was “YOGA FOR WELL-BEING”. In view of COVID – 19 pandemics, the programme was organized on online platform, as the mass gatherings are not allowed as per standard operating procedures. The celebration was carried out for two days in which the faculty members, UG / PG students and children with disabilities participated and performed yoga protocol as per the recommendations of AYUSH.

  1. Yogathon – 27 Cycles of Surya Namaskar for Children with Special Needs
  2. Yogathon – 54 Cycles of Surya Namaskar for UG/PG Students

Virtual Mode: Zoom / Google Meet Platform
On 20th June 2021, the faculty had given an opportunity to the Children with Special Needs to perform minimum of 6 to 27 cycles of Surya Namaskar based on their ability levels and 54 cycles of Surya Namaskars for UG/PG students of GAPEY to perform the yogathon continuously and rhythmically without break.

Celebration of International Day of Yoga – Virtual participation and Performance of Yoga by students of GAPEY

On the celebration day (21st June 2021), Dr. R. Giridharan, Associate Professor and Head, welcomed all the participation who were gathered through virtual mode. Swami Garishthananda, Administrative Head, RKMVERI, Coimbatore Campus delivered a special address on “Yoga & Peace”, stressing the importance of traditional yoga / sanatana dharma as the solution for the current pandemic and also highlighted famous personalities like Buddha, Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda who were enlightened through yoga.

A 45-minutes video prescribed by AYUSH was displayed through virtual mode, the staff and students performed yogic exercises in line sequences with the video demonstration. The practice comprised of different Sitting, Standing, lying Asanas, Pranayama, Meditation & Santih Patha etc., also accompanied with their benefits for the human body. The online yoga session concluded after 60 Minutes. Finally, online quiz was conducted based on the programme and all the participants were awarded with e-certificate.
