Department of Intellectual Disability, FDMSE, RKMVERI (Deemed University), Coimbatore Campus organized a one-day community participatory program (CPP) for parents of children with intellectual disability (CwID) who are enrolled in primary, and secondary level of Special Education Unit at FDMSE on 09 March 2023.
Objectives:
- To explain the need and importance of early intervention services for children with developmental delay among parents
- To create awareness on Government schemes, provisions and benefits available for children with intellectual disability
- To train parents of CwID to handle their children effectively on safety, hygiene and functional skills
- To conduct leisure time activities for parents of children with intellectual disability
The sessions were handled by the teacher trainees of third-year Integrated B.Ed-M.Ed-ID & second-year M.Ed – ID. Fourteen parents of both primary and secondary programs from the special unit, FDMSE attended the program.
The topics for the session are Need and Importance of Early Intervention services for CwID, Schemes, benefits, and provisions for CwID, Good Habits, Health & Hygiene, Safety and Security, Social Inclusion of CwID and Leisure time activities for Parents.
Staff members from department of Intellectual Disability also were present in the program. The doubts were clarified in the interactive session with parents and the program ended with feedback session.
