International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) was observed by FDMSE, RKMVERI, Coimbatore on 3rd December 2022 at GKD Auditorium. The event commenced with a prayer song. Swami Garishthananda Maharaj, Secretary, Vidyalaya Institutions and Administrative Head, RKMVERI graced the occasion. Dr. N. Muthaiah, Dean, FDMSE welcomed the gathering.
Hon’ble Thiru. Justice G. R. Swaminathan, Judge, Madras, High Court was the chief guest. In his speech, he stressed the significance of providing barrier-free environment for the differently abled, the need for overcoming stereotype attitude by parents and also the importance of providing updated knowledge to the differently-abled and parents about the laws and legislations pertinent to their welfare. He also added that the parents should also be educated to take care of the emotions of siblings by providing equal opportunities.
Swami Nirmaleshananda Maharaj, Asst. Admin Head, RKMVERI delivered the special address. In his address, he emphasized the importance of strengthening the abilities of differently persons by quoting appropriate anecdotes from ancient scriptures and cautioned the parents that they should not be over ambitious about the future of their wards. He also stressed that serving the differently abled is a privilege not an obligation.
Various cultural events were performed by students with disabilities studying in FDMSE Special School and TAT Kalanilayam Middle School. Certificates and medals were distributed to the winners of various sports events. Employees of differently abled and staff members working for persons with differently abled were honoured with a memento.
In total, 173 persons with differently abled, 60 parents, 75 teacher trainees and 35 staff members attended the event. Dr. K. Dhanalakshmi, Asst. Professor, proposed vote of thanks. The programme concluded with the National Anthem.
