Unified Physical Activities Event was organized by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, Faculty of General & Adapted Physical Education and Yoga.

On February 23rd, 2024, the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, Faculty of General & Adapted Physical Education and Yoga, orchestrated a Unified Physical Activities event for children with disabilities. This event aimed to promote the inclusivity as well as showcase the capabilities of children with disabilities through synchronized physical activities.

A total of 936 children, who had dedicated 48 hours to practicing synchronized physical activities, participated in the event. Remarkably, these children exhibited their routines without any prior rehearsal, demonstrating their enthusiasm and dedication to the cause of inclusive physical education.

Revered Swami Garishthananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, presided over the function, Dr. L. Murugan, Avl, Honourable Minister of State, Minister of Fisheries, Husbandry Dairying & Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India New Delhi, was the Chief Guest and Rtn. CA. M. Bhaskar, District Chair –CSR Committee, Rotary Club of Coimbatore, Metropolis was the Special Guest.

The Unified Physical activities commenced with the Marching of Children with Disabilities (CwD) with their pairs, setting the tone for the event. The participants settled into their respective positions and began the proceedings with a prayer song, beautifully sung by CwDs from Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, followed by an energetic dance performance by CwDs from FDMSE therapy unit. Then the children, guided by their pairs, displayed various synchronized demonstrations of activities in front of the audience. These activities included are:

  1. Free hand exercise

  2. Dance

  3. Yoga

  4. Social group behaviour exercise

  5. Kolam

  6. Handkerchief drills

  7. Hoops exercises

  8. Flag drills

The Unified Physical Activities event exemplified the spirit of inclusivity and empowerment, highlighting the potential of children with disabilities to actively participate and excel in physical activities. It underscored the importance of creating an inclusive environment where all children, regardless of ability, can thrive and contribute positively to society.

The event concluded with the participants receiving well-deserved appreciation and recognition for their efforts and achievements in promoting inclusivity and unity through physical activities. Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive education and physical activity for all.
