The Faculty of Disability Management and Special Education (FDMSE), RKMVERI, Coimbatore, organized a one-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “AI Tools in Higher Education: Teaching, Learning and Research” on 17 September 2025. The programme was designed to enhance the digital competency of faculty members by familiarizing them with the latest Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools that can be effectively integrated into pedagogy, academic research, and institutional practices.
Dr. S. Somasundaram, CCNA Certified Instructor and Lab In-charge, Department of Computer Science, SRKV College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, served as the resource person. In his interactive and practice-oriented sessions, Dr. Somasundaram introduced and demonstrated a variety of AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Gamma, Orange, Magic School, Speechify, ElevenLabs, and Canva. He highlighted their potential applications in research data analysis, content creation, academic writing, accessibility enhancement, and professional communication. The hands-on demonstrations enabled the participants to gain a clear understanding of how these tools can simplify complex tasks, foster creativity, and improve overall academic productivity.
A total of 13 faculty members (12 female and 1 male) from FDMSE actively participated in the FDP. The sessions encouraged collaborative discussions, and participants explored innovative ways of applying AI tools in classroom teaching, curriculum development, student engagement, and research publications.
The programme was effectively coordinated by Dr. S. Logeshkumar, Assistant Professor, FDMSE, Participants expressed that the FDP was highly beneficial and timely, equipping them with practical insights to adopt AI tools responsibly and effectively in their professional practices.
