FDMSE, RKMVERI (Deemed University), Coimbatore Campus organised One-day sensitization programme on Physical and Mental well-being for Parents of Children with Cerebral Palsy – 25 Mar 2023

In connection with National Awareness Month for Cerebral Palsy, Physiotherapy unit of Faculty of Disability Management and Special Education (FDMSE), RKMVERI (Deemed-to be university), Coimbatore Campus organized a one-day Sensitization programme on Physical and Mental well-being for Parents of Children with Cerebral Palsy on 25 March 2023 (Saturday). Inaugural function was held with the blessings of Guru Maharaj with a prayer song. Dr. Sukumari. S, Paediatric Physiotherapist welcomed the gathering and oriented the participants about the objectives and schedule of the sensitization programme. Swami Niramleshananda Maharaj, Asst. Admin Head delivered the inaugural address and Mrs. M. Senthilvani, Asst. Professor, proposed the vote of thanks. All the staff members attended the inaugural function.

The first session was handled by Dr. Sukumari. S. Paediatric Physiotherapist, FDMSE on the topic Minimizing the effects of Locomotor Disability through Physiotherapy. She discussed types of cerebral palsy and the importance of home-based therapy for the parents. The second session was dealt by Dr. Janani Tamilvanan, Dietitian/Nutritionist, founder and CEO at Geneobe wellness, Coimbatore. She explained in detail about the Importance of maintaining adequate nutrition and healthy diet children with Cerebral Palsy.

Afternoon session was handled by Dr. M. Shalini, International Affiliated Psychologist, Shalini psychology care, Coimbatore. She presented a motivational talk on Promoting good quality of life among parents of Children with Cerebral palsy. Parents were very much interactive during this session. Followed by a short film named “Siragadikka Aasai” was projected by Internship students of PPG and RVS college of physiotherapy. Finally, Feedback forms and suggestions were collected from the parents. All the parents enthusiastically participated and interacted well among them.

In total 42 participants, 25 parents (24 Female and 1 Male) and 2 Male students with Cerebral Palsy from Self-Finance College of Arts and Science, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, 8 children with cerebral palsy (FDMSE-Physiotherapy Unit) and 7 internship students from RVS and PPG college of physiotherapy, Coimbatore participated in the programme.
