Brief Report on “District Level Literary Competitions for the Differently Abled” – 26 Aug 2022

In commemoration of 125th Anniversary of Ramakrishna Mission & 75th Anniversary of Indian Independence (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav), the Faculty of Disability Management and Special Education (FDMSE), Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI), Coimbatore Campus organised a District Level Literary Competitions for the Differently Abled on 26 Aug 2022.

The event started by invoking the blessings Sri Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda at FDMSE Yoga Hall at 10.45 am. The welcome address and introduction to the competitions was presented by Dr. S. Parween, Assistant Professor, FDMSE. Revered Swami Buddhidananada Maharaj, Deputy Controller of Examination, RKMVERI, Coimbatore Campus graced the occasion and blessed the participants.

The competitions were held at various venues from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm. A total of 102 students with disabilities from 20 schools and colleges of Coimbatore District participated in the event (Students with Visual Impairment -18, Students with Hearing Impairment – 59, Students with Intellectual Disability – 25).

Revered Swami Garishthananda Maharaj, Administrative Head, RKMVERI, Coimbatore Campus, Swami Dhinathananda Maharaj, Assistant Administrative Head, FDMSE –RKMVERI along with Heads of Vidyalaya Institutions visited the event and encouraged the participants.

A panel of judges evaluated the performances of the participants and accordingly best performers were selected from the respective category of each competition. The Prize distribution event held at 2.15 pm at Yoga Hall FDMSE. Revered Swami Nirmaleshananda Maharaj, Assistant Secretary, Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore graced the occasion and distributed Prizes to the winners of various competitions. Sixteen winners of various competitions received a Cash prize of Rs.500/-, a memento (vocational products prepared by children with intellectual disabilities) and a Certificate of Award. The Participation Certificates were given to all other participants who participated in the competitions.

The event ended successfully with blessings of Sri Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda.
