The 12th International Day of Yoga was observed on 23 June 2026 at the Faculty of General and Adapted Physical Education and Yoga (GAPEY), Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, Coimbatore Campus. The programme witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 574 participants, including children with special needs, parents, teaching and non-teaching staff, special educators, and GAPEY student volunteers from various special institutions across Coimbatore. The event was conducted in accordance with the Common Yoga Protocol prescribed by the Ministry of AYUSH, which included basic loosening exercises, Yogasanas, Pranayama, Dhyana (meditation), Sankalpa (solemn resolve), and Shanti Patha (peace prayer). The programme was graced by Swami Garishthanandaji Maharaj, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore, as the Chief Guest. Dr. N. Muthaiah, Dean, School of Rehabilitation Sciences and Physical Education, was also present and graced the event Dr. R. Giridharan, Head of the Department, Faculty of General and Adapted Physical Education and Yoga (GAPEY), RKMVERI, delivered the welcome address and underscored the significance of celebrating the International Day of Yoga with children from special schools, highlighting yoga as a means of fostering holistic health, inclusion, and well-being. As part of the programme, lunch was provided to all participating children, their parents, and teachers from the special schools. Certificates of participation were distributed to every participant in appreciation of their active involvement. The programme was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Dibakar Debnath and Dr. D. Yuvaraj, Assistant Professors, Faculty of GAPEY, RKMVERI, with the dedicated support of the faculty members, ensuring the smooth and successful conduct of the event.
