FDMSE, RKMVERI organized a two-day workshop on E-Learning Platforms for Students with Visual Impairment and Parents on 05 & 6 March 2026. The programme commenced with a prayer song. Following the inaugural session, the participants were divided into two groups, namely Basic Level and Advanced Level, based on their prior knowledge of computer usage. 

In the Basic Level training, students and parents were introduced to the basic components of a computer keyboard, the functions of different keys, and proper finger positioning. They were also given practical training in the use of NVDA screen reader software and learned text navigation in MS Word documents. In the Advanced Level training, students and parents were trained in MS Word navigation, including alignment, insertion of special characters, table formation, and document handling. They were also introduced to online learning resources such as Khan Academy and NotebookLM. In addition, participants learned typing mathematical equations, using the MathCAT NVDA add-on to read mathematical equations, and utilizing accessible tools such as MathCAT add-on, Dolphin EasyReader, ChatGPT, and other AI-based learning applications. Participants were further trained to access and read e-books through the Bookshare website, enabling them to effectively utilize digital learning resources.

Mr. Shankar Subbiah, AT Consultant, Agate Infotek, Chennai; G. Kumaresan, Bookshare Outreach and Accessibility Consultant; S. Sasikumar, Programmes and Training Head, Karna Vidya Foundation; Mr. R. Gowri Shankar, Trainer-cum-Zone Coordinator, Western Zone of Tamil Nadu; and Mr. R. Nikash, Trainer, Government Primary School, Uliyampalayam, were the resource persons for the workshop.

A total of 43 participants attended the workshop (38 offline participants and 5 online participants), including 16 school students (8 male and 8 female), 8 college students (6 male and 2 female), and 19 parents (2 male and 17 female). The workshop was coordinated by Dr. K. Dhanalakshmi, Assistant Professor, FDMSE.
