FDMSE, RKMVERI, Coimbatore Campus, Department of Hearing Impairment, organized a One-day Sensitization Programme for the parents of Children with Special Needs titled ‘Hearing Care, Health and Nutrition’ on 10 March 2026.
The first session of the day was dealt by Dr. S. Thilakavathy, Associate Professor, and renowned Speaker School of Allied and Healthcare Science, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women- Coimbatore. She shared her expertise and gave valuable inputs on “Importance of Healthy and Nutritious food habits for the children”. The second session was followed by Mrs. Preeta Singh, Speech and Language pathologist and Audiologist, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women- Coimbatore on “Importance of Hearing and Ear Care and Maintenance”.
She discussed the need and importance of care and maintenance of sensory organ ear and also to handle programmable hearing aids and cochlear implants. Last session of the one day programme ended with the discussions and sharing the feedback by the participants. The parents suggested conducting more programs focusing on awareness about the hearing care and health habits among the children with different disabilities and associated problems. On the whole, the training programme was useful for all the participants.
The participants were parents of children with Special Needs who were the primary stakeholders. In total 59 parents of children with different disabilities participated (57 female and 2 male parents of children) in the sensitization programme. Dr. Jignya Shah, Assistant Professor coordinated the event.
