Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, Faculty of General & Adapted Physical Education and Yoga was organized A 3-Day Workshop on indigenous sports, Rhythmic Activities and Spectrum of Teaching styles in Inclusive Physical Education from 26th to 28th of October 2023 at GAPEY.

The 3-Day Workshop on Indigenous Sports, Rhythmic Activities and Spectrum of Teaching Styles in Inclusive Physical Education was a comprehensive workshop that covered a wide range of topics related to physical education and inclusive education. The workshop was attended by over 280 participants, including physical education students, teachers, special educators, and other professionals working in the field of education.

Day 1

The inaugural program set the tone for the workshop with insightful addresses from notable speakers. Rev. Swami Buddhidananda Maharaj Deputy Controller of Examination RKMVERI Coimbatore. and Dr. K. Murugavel, Registrar I/C and Head of the Department of Physical Education, Bharathiyar University.

Swami Buddhidananda Maharaj emphasized that education is not something created or destroyed, it is a process of discovery. He shared the profound idea that knowledge and wisdom already exist, waiting to be unveiled. Maharaj’s message also focused on the empowerment that comes with education. He highlighted that when individuals understand the essence of education as a process of discovery, they become empowered to overcome challenges and seek solutions in both their personal and professional lives.

Dr. K. Murugavel, Registrar I/C and Head of the Department of Physical Education, Bharathiyar University, delivered a captivating keynote address that resonated deeply with the audience. His speech was a source of inspiration and motivation for all in attendance. Dr. Murugavel not only shared his vast knowledge but also provided a visionary perspective on the role of physical education in today’s inclusive society. He emphasized the significance of adopting modern teaching styles while preserving and promoting indigenous sports and activities.

Session I: Spectrum of Teaching Style in Inclusive Physical Education – I

Dr. P. Rajini Kumar, Assistant Professor, Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University, discussed the different types of teaching styles that can be used in physical education, including direct instruction, guided practice, independent practice, and inquiry-based learning. He also discussed how to choose the right teaching style for the specific needs of the learners and the learning objectives.

Session II: Spectrum of Teaching Style in Inclusive Physical Education – II

Dr. R. Giridharan, Associate Professor and Head, Faculty of General and Adapted Physical Eduation and Yoga, discussed how to use the spectrum of teaching styles to create an inclusive physical education environment. He emphasized the importance of using a variety of teaching styles and providing students with choices, so that all learners can be successful.

Session III: Rhythmic Activities: Inclusive Zumba Dance

Mrs. Naga Lakshmi, Zumba Trainner, provided a demonstration of how to teach Zumba dance in a physical education setting. She discussed the benefits of Zumba dance for students of all fitness levels and abilities.

Session IV: Rhythmic Activities: Inclusive Aerobics Dance

The inclusive aerobics dance teaching technique session was conducted by Mr. Krish Beethovan, Aerobics Instructor. He began by discussing the benefits of aerobics dance for students’ cardiovascular health and fitness. He then provided a demonstration of how to teach a basic aerobics dance routine and also provided tips on how to modify the aerobics dance routine for students with different abilities. The aerobics dance teaching technique session was a valuable experience for participants, and it provided them with the knowledge and skills they need to teach aerobics dance to students of all fitness levels and abilities.

Day 2

Session V: Inclusive Gymnastics (Practical Demonstration)

Mr. R. Pradeep, Coach SDAT, Erode, is a specialist in gymnastics. He provided a practical demonstration of inclusive gymnastics. During his demonstration, he showed how to modify gymnastics exercises for students with disabilities and also demonstrated how to use adaptive equipment to make gymnastics exercises more accessible.

Session VI: Indigenous Sports: Kalaripayattu – Meipayattu – I

Mr. N. Praveen Kumar, SVN Kalari Canter, gave a presentation on Kalaripayattu and Meipayattu, two traditional Indian martial arts. He discussed the history and benefits of these sports, and he demonstrated some basic Kalaripayattu and Meipayattu techniques.

Session VII: Indigenous Sports: Kalaripayattu – Meipayattu – II

Mr. N. Praveen Kumar, SVN Kalari Canter, continued his presentation on Kalaripayattu and Meipayattu. He discussed more advanced Kalaripayattu and Meipayattu techniques, and he demonstrated how these sports can be adapted for students with different abilities.

Session VIII: Indigenous Training – Karalakattai

Mrs. Trusha gave a presentation on Karalakattai, a traditional Indian stick fighting sport. She discussed the history and benefits of Karalakattai, and she demonstrated some basic Karalakattai techniques.

Session IX: Indigenous Sports: Sillambam

Mr. N. Praveen Kumar, SVN Kalari Canter, gave a presentation on Sillambam, a traditional Indian martial art that uses a long bamboo stick. He discussed the history and benefits of Sillambam, and he demonstrated some basic Sillambam techniques.

Day 3

Session X: Spectrum of Teaching Style in Inclusive Physical Education – III

Dr. V. Sadu discussed the importance of using a variety of teaching styles in inclusive physical education. He emphasized the importance of providing students with choices and opportunities to succeed.

Session XI: Spectrum of Teaching Style in Inclusive Physical Education – IV

Dr. Mrs. R. Saravana Prabha discussed how to use the spectrum of teaching styles to create a physically literate environment for all learners. She emphasized the importance of helping students develop the skills and knowledge they need to participate in physical activity throughout their lives.

Valedictory program

Swami Veerahananda Maharaj, Assistant Administrative head RKMVERI GAPEY, and Secratery Maruthi College of Physical Education was the chief guest and deliver the chief guest address and emphasis the significant of Indigenous sports in the modern era and the way to bring bake that in education system. And he distribute the certificate to the delegates.
