The Division of Hearing Impairment – Speech and Language Unit conducted a sensitization program for parents of children with special needs on the importance of oro-motor and sensory skills in speech development. The event was coordinated by Mrs. D. Seshasri, (Speech Language Pathologist and Audiologist) and Mrs. M. Senthilvani (Assistant Professor of Special Education) on August 31, 2024, in Room No. 10, Administrative Block, FDMSE – RKMVERI. Fifty-three (53) Mothers of children with special needs from the Speech and Language Unit, Physiotherapy unit, Low vision Unit and Special Education Unit and 7 Faculty Members participated in the program. The sessions were led by Mrs. D. Seshasri and Mrs. M. Senthilvani, who provided in-depth insights into the significance of oral structures and the implementation of exercises aimed at improving speech development. Additionally, participants received practical training with a specialized speech kit, equipping them to deliver effective home-based therapy to support their children's ongoing speech development.
