World Braille Day observation at RKMVERI, Coimbatore Campus – 04 Jan 2023

The Department of Visual Impairment observed World Braille Day on January 4, 2023, in the FDMSE Prayer Hall. The programme started with a prayer song. Dr. S. Parween, Assistant Professor, and Head of the Department, welcomed the gathering. Dr. K. Dhanalakshmi, Assistant Professor, gave a brief orientation about the Braille Competitions. Swami Nirmaleshananda Maharaj, Assistant Administrative Head of the Faculty of Disability Management and Special Education, blessed the participants through his benedictory address.  S. Palanisamy, Production Assistant, Braille Section, spoke about the significance of Braille and Selvi. N. Prohitha Sree, student from the Centre of Excellence for Low Vision Studies, gave a speech on the history and development of the Braille system. Dr. J. B. Dheesha, Asst. Professor, proposed vote of thanks.

For students with visual impairment and teacher trainees, various Braille competitions were conducted, including Braille reading, writing in both Tamil and English, and Braille transcription. In total, 52 individuals attended the program, among them 14 visually impaired students and 11 teacher trainees.
