UNIFIED PLAY DAY 2025
The Unified Play Day was successfully conducted on 28th February 2025 (Friday) at the RKMVERI GAPEY, Coimbatore Campus, organized by the Faculty of General & Adapted Physical Education and Yoga (GAPEY), Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute. The event was presided over by Swami Garishthananda, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Institutions, along with Swami Buddhidananda, Assistant Administrative Head, Dr. R. Giridharan, Head of the Department (GAPEY), and Sri S. Chandramohan, District Disability Rehabilitation Officer. The Chief Guest for the event was Rtn. K. Palaniappan, Chairman of Rathna Group of Companies.
A total of 835 students participated in the event, including 545 students with disabilities and 290 non-disabled students, representing 41 schools in total. Among these, 21 were special schools, and 20 were government schools. The day began at 8:30 a.m. with the arrival of school children, followed by a march past and assembly at 10:00 a.m. Guest performances by special children included a dance performance by FDMSE Special Education Unit and another by TAT Kanalaiyam Middle School. At 10:25 a.m., a combined synchronized demonstration by school children took place, featuring yoga, free-hand exercises, social group behaviour, handkerchief exercises, hoops, and flag drills.
The Unified Sports Competitions and Therapy Stalls were inaugurated at 10:45 a.m. The sports events included 5-A-Side Football for persons with Intellectual Disability(Boys), Bocce for persons with Intellectual Disability (Girls) , Boccia For Persons with visual impairment (Boys & Girls), Kabaddi for persons with hearing impairment (Boys), and Volleyball for persons with hearing impairment (Girls). In addition to the competitions, various therapy stalls were set up, including Physiotherapy, Play Therapy, Kolam Therapy, and Other Therapy. The event concluded with the distribution of lunch and departure of children to their respective schools at 12:30 p.m. The Unified Play Day served as a significant platform promoting inclusion, teamwork, and active participation among children of all abilities, reinforcing the spirit of unity and sportsmanship.
