A one-day training program on adapted chess was organized by Faculty of Disability Management and Special Education at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, Coimbatore Campus on November 9, 2024. The event began with a prayer song performed by Master C. Sanjith. Ms. R. Dhatchayini, a first-year M.Ed. (VI) student, welcomed the participants and introduced the resource person, Mr. S. Sabareesh, a Testing Engineer and Sales Executive at Hearsight Audio Vision, Coimbatore. Mr. Sabareesh covered topics including basic chess concepts, the movement of chess pieces, fundamental strategies and rules, and hands-on practice with a tactile chess set. Swami Buddhidanandaji Maharaj, the Assistant Administrative Head of FDMSE, also provided motivational remarks to the participants during the session.
The program concluded with participant feedback and a vote of thanks by Ms. A. Matlina, a second-year B.Ed. (VI) student. Dr. K. Dhanalakshmi, Assistant Professor at FDMSE, coordinated the event.
A total of 37 participants (12 male and 25 female) attended, including visually impaired students from various schools—Swami Shivananda Nursery and Primary School, Swami Shivananda Higher Secondary School, Periyanaickenpalayam; Chinmaya Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Vadavalli; Avinashilingam Higher Secondary School, TVS Nagar; C.S.I. Girls Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore; Government Higher Secondary School, Naickenpalayam; Government Higher Secondary School, Avinashi; T.A.T. Kalanilayam Middle School, Periyanaickenpalayam—and from the Centre of Excellence for Low Vision Studies at FDMSE, along with parents and FDMSE trainee teachers.
